What is a Layout Version?

A layout version is an iteration of a layout that reflects the state of a layout at a given point in time. You can create new versions and restore old ones based on your needs.

Editing and Finalizing a Layout Version

After you create a Structured or Semi-structured layout, you can refine it and add to it until it’s ready to be deployed in a release. When you make changes to the working version of a Structured or Semi-structured layout and want to include those changes in your version, you should finalize and save it.

Layout Identifiers

A layout identifier is a string of characters that appears on a specific page of a Structured layout that allows the machine to distinguish among similar layouts that a submission matches to. They can contain letters, numbers, or a combination of both.

Layout Priority

You can associate submission-processing deadlines with layout variations. We assign these deadlines to submissions when they are matched to layout variations. While each page may match a different layout variation—which may have different deadlines—the overall processing of submissions can be optimized based on these priorities.

Layout Tags

Layout tags help users organize layouts and quickly find layouts using the Tags filter in the Layout Library. Tags are free-text values that can be assigned to one or more layouts. You can add multiple tags to a layout. For example, you may use tags to indicate the type of data a layout is designed to process (e.g., receipts, invoices).

Exporting and Importing Layout Versions

Each layout can have multiple versions, which are iterations of the same layout. In each iteration, the system may be told to extract information from slightly different locations, or there may be different specifications for the kinds of characters that are extracted.

Archiving and Restoring Layouts

Layouts can be archived, which allows you to declutter the Layout Library by removing old or unused layouts from this view. Unlike deletion, archiving is a non-permanent action. Once an archived layout is restored from the archive, it can be used with the system again.

Layout Performance Reports

Layout performance reporting is specifically available for Structured layouts and shows only machine transcription errors. Layout Performance Reports are version-specific, so you can only access them through the version table within a Layout Details screen.

Improving Layout Performance

Layout performance reporting allows users to review machine errors on pages matched to a given layout version for a Structured document. This can help users understand whether changes should be made to field definitions to improve automation and transcription accuracy.
